Potential Rotation Projects

  1. Calcium regulation of cardiac muscle contraction.
    Use steady-state biochemical methods to investigate the effects of Troponin C mutations on myosin ATPase activity and actin filament velocity.
    Techniques: cloning, bacterial expression, protein purification, biochemical assays, in vitro motility assays.

  2. Characterization of the effects of myosin regulatory light chain mutations on contractile function.
    Techniques: protein purification, in vitro motility assays, optical trapping force measurements, and single molecule mechanics and kinetics.

  3. Characterization of bacterial pilus unwinding/refolding.
    Techniques: protein purification, optical trapping.
